Most people overestimate how much space they need. Here's a rough guide, assuming things are boxed and stacked sensibly.
| Size | Roughly holds |
|---|---|
| 10–25 sq ft | Boxes, a bike, the contents of a small room or a student's belongings |
| 35–50 sq ft | A one-bedroom flat, or a trade's tools and materials |
| 70 sq ft (10ft container) | A one- to two-bedroom flat |
| 100 sq ft | A two-bedroom house |
| 150 sq ft (20ft container) | A three-bedroom house, or a small car |
| 200 sq ft | A four-bedroom house |
| 300 sq ft (40ft container) | A large house, business stock on racking, vehicles or plant |
Height counts
Indoor rooms are often 2.4 m or more high, containers about 2.39 m. Stacking boxes to the ceiling halves the floor space you need.
Leave a path
If you'll need things out during the let, leave a walkway. It costs about 20% more space and saves a lot of unloading.
