Lock-up garages by town
318 townsAbout lock-up garages
A lock-up garage is a single brick or concrete garage, usually in a block, rented on its own. They're good for a car, a motorbike, overflow stock, tools or household storage, and are often the cheapest dry, lockable space in a town.
Many are run by councils and housing associations, who let them to non-tenants too, often with VAT added. Most have no power or lighting, and many older doors are only about 7ft wide.
The cheapest published price on Ironkeep right now is £28 a month, and half of listed sites that publish prices charge £56 or less.
Questions
How much is a lock-up garage to rent near {place}?
Council and housing association garages are often the cheapest, commonly around £8 to £15 a week. Private garages vary more. Non-tenants may pay VAT on top.
Can I rent a council garage if I'm not a council tenant?
Usually yes. Tenants often get priority and pay no VAT, but most schemes let spare garages to anyone.
Can I keep a car in a lock-up?
Yes, that's what most were built for. Measure the door opening and the internal length first if your car is wider or longer than average.
